I have to tell you about this awesome lunch that I grew up on. My mom first heard about it from our crazy sweet hairdresser, Jan. I have great memories of Jan, not only because she turned us on to this amazing lunch, but because she would always tell my sister and I (both pre-elementary at the time) that she also cut Prince’s hair. When we’d walk into the salon, she would always say, “Oh, you girls just missed him. He was just here!” My sister and I both had crushes on Prince. I mean, who didn’t in 1985?
Anyhow. I love this lunchtime treat, and my kids do, too. It’s like peanut butter and jelly made even better. I mean, who wouldn’t like melty peanut butter and jelly or jam smooshed between two buttery toasty slices of bread?
So are you ready to learn how to make it?
How to make fried peanut butter and jelly
So here’s how you do it. The secret it this: it’s not complicated. Your kids can totally do this. Honest! The chef, um…makes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich…
…and then grills it like a grilled cheese sandwich. You know, butter on the outsides…
…grill it until it’s golden brown, flip it over, grill the other side…
When it’s done, your mouth will explode in anticipation of the awesomeness, but hold on!
Be Careful. Fried PB & J is super hot.
I know you want to cram this right into your face-hole and get the goodness as fast as possible, but please know that melty peanut butter and melty jelly or jam is super hot! You need to let this sandwich cool for a few minutes before you enjoy it. A burnt tongue is not the right way to enjoy fried peanut butter and jelly.
